So Far Behind!

Yikes! I just realized how long it has been since I posted an update. Things have been moving fast and furiously around here lately. There is so much that must be done by the end of the year! I am really going to be sad to see this year come to an end. I have enjoyed working with your children. Here are a few pics from Field Day. You know we had to have a silly one, too! McTeacher's Night

Don't forget that Monday, March 26th is JME's McTeacher's Night at McDonald's on HWY 84. The class with the most participation will be awarded a special prize! Just write "McCallar" on the back of your receipt and leave it with a staff member before you leave (or drive off in the drive thru).

In case you haven't heard, both staff and students may dress down on Monday to remind everyone to come out to McDonald's and support our school. Can't wait to see you all there. I will be working the 6:30-8:00 shift!

Math Measuring

We are working hard for the next three weeks preparing for our final benchmark assessments on our first grade reading, language arts, and math skills. Today we spent some time measuring objects in our classroom using non-standard units. We thought we would share a few photos since it has been a few months since we have posted any.

Jeans Day!

Don't forget! Students may dress down tomorrow for $1. Please refer to the code of conduct book for information on the appropriate attire for dress down days. I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend.

Short Week Again!

I know I have been neglecting this blog lately, but we have been so busy since we returned from Christmas break! I just wanted to remind you that students will not be in school on Thursday and Friday due to professional learning days for staff. I hope you all have a great long weekend! My students have been working very hard, and I think they have earned a little break. I will also try to get back on track and post some pictures and updates about things we are doing in class.

Math Facts

I need your help! We are working on math addition facts from 0-9 daily in class. These facts must be memorized, much like our sight words. Many students are still trying to add by counting on, but are unable to meet the requirement of 20 facts in 2 minutes doing so. The best way to practice this at home is to use a set of flashcards to drill nightly. If you do not have a set of flashcards, please contact me and I will send home some blank cards for you to make a set. This is a very important skill in math and low scores on weekly math drill tests will bring down the overall math grade for your child. Thanks for all that you do!

Welcome Back!

We have been back in school for four days now, but we are already back into our routine and it seems as if we never left! I wanted to let you all know that Mrs. Tolley has reward students and staff with a jeans day tomorrow, Wednesday, January 11th because of our AR percentages across the school. Last nine weeks, our school average on AR tests was 85.5! That is awesome. Even more exciting is that our class average was 87.2. Please continue to read nightly with your child and lets push that average even higher!

Students may wear any shirt with their jeans. Thanks again for your support!
