Welcome Lesly!
We are so excited to welcome Lesly to our class! Lesly is not new to JME, but today was her first day in our classroom. Everyone loved showing her around the room and helping her get adjusted. We are glad to have you in our class!

Alice Grew Big and Alice Grew Small...
I can't get that tune out of my head! If you missed "Sing Me a Story" this week, you missed some great singing and performing. We wrapped up yesterday with two shows, and I think all were impressed with how well the 1st and 3rd grade students performed. I had to take another two photos yesterday since we had two students absent during our first show on Wednesday. You know that they can't be serious for too long, so I had to take a silly one too!
I almost forgot! Due to all of our shows and practices this week, we will not be testing on our story, spelling, and sight words today. We will work on all of this again next week. Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Sing Me a Story
Today was the first performance of our fall music program "Sing Me a Story". It was a great show, and it was so much fun to see so many parents come to support us! Don't forget that we have two shows scheduled for tomorrow at 9:15 and 12:30. Please plan to attend one show if you couldn't make it today. Here is a photo of our class dressed in their pj's right before the performance. Not only do they look cute, but they also did an amazing job! I am so proud of them.

Happy Friday...Oops, It's Thursday!
I love long weekends! I am sure you do as well. Before I leave today, I decided I better catch up on my blogging. It seems like every time I sit down to post, something comes up, and I forget to come back to it. I was just going through some pictures on my camera and decided I better post a few of these now before they are too old. As you can see, we are learning many things in class. These first few are some math activities from the past few weeks. We were completing addition and subtraction word problems using the SMARTBoard. They were getting very good at picking out the key words and manipulating the pictures to solve the problems.
Here, we were working on using new sight words in sentences.

Scholastic Book Order
I know that many of you shopped the Scholastic Book Fair that we had at school this week and found some great books! We are always excited about reading new books in class!
I also participate in Scholastic Book Clubs for our classroom each month. Your child received this flyer at the beginning of September. If you are interested in placing an order, you need to send it back to school no later than Monday (the due date of the form was September 15th). I had several parents interested in ordering with a debit/credit card online. If you are interested in completing the order in this way, please visit the site at Scholastic Book Clubs and enter the teacher code J3DYT. The order you place will be delivered to the classroom with all of the other orders and will be sent home with your child. If you have any questions about this, please let me know. I like that Scholastic provides affordable books, and many are labeled in the flyer with AR level for tests!
If you are unable to order this month, don't worry! I will send home a new flyer each month. Remember, books make the perfect birthday or holiday gift for your little readers!

Math, Math, and More Math!
I have been trying to put together a video of some of our math activities from this first unit. We have learned about concrete, tally, picture, and bar graphs and how to interpret information using a graph. We have also been using number lines to order numbers and to help us "count up" when working with addition problems. Who said math wasn't fun?
